Generic Data Resources
... building expert information resources
Data collected to meet a particular information need, as most data tends to be, is ill-equipped to meet other information needs. This is what we call ‘project-specific paralysis’. With most of the cost of data coming at the acquisition stage, it is very odd that so many people simply accept that the one-purpose-only data resource is acceptable.
We don't. We believe that project-specific data resources are an avoidable feature of an organisation’s data strategy. By adopting a generic approach to data, where data are stored in accordance with their own needs, it is possible to ease the ‘paralysis’.
